Eligibility

You are eligible for a permit on your 15 1/2 birthday. Obtain your permit by passing the DMV written test. You can take the written test after completing Driver Education or by getting a Certificate of Simultaneous Enrollment on after first day of class.

Complete 6 hours of driving instruction with us, and 50 hours of practice with a parent or adult 25 years old or older, or with a licensed professional instructor. These drivers must have a valid California driver license. You must be 16 years old and have held the instruction permit for 6 months prior to taking the drive test.

   

Education

A driver education course consists of 1500 minutes of classroom instruction taught in person by a qualified instructor. At the completion of this course, students receive a Driver Education Completion Certificate.

   

Permit

To drive legally, a minor needs a permit which is obtained by passing the written exam given by the DMV. Make an appointment at your local DMV and take the test. To be eligible for the written test, you  will have to present either the Driver Education Completion Certificate or the Certificate of Simultaneous Enrollment.

   

Training

A driver training course consists of 6 hours of one-on-one instruction with a professional driving instructor. Upon completion, students receive a Driver Training Completion Certificate.

   

Practice

Students must complete 50 hours of practice driving, 10 of which must be at night. following the lesson plan described in the Parent Teen Training Aid Booklet, which is available trough our office or can be obtained from a local DMV office. 

REMEMBER THAT THE TEEN PERMIT IS NOT VALID UNTIL THE BEHIND-THE-WHEEL INSTRUCTION BEGINS WITH A PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR.

   

Examination

After the teen has completed Driver Education, Driver Training and the 50 hours of practice driving with an adult, he or she is eligible to take the driving test at the DMV. The applicant must supply the car used for the drive test, and the vehicle must have a currently  registered, insured and pass a  DMV safety inspection. The test will take approximately 15 minutes, and an appointment is required.

   

Paperwork

The teen will need an original or certified copy of his/her birth certificate, and have a social security number. Other forms of ID are acceptable, including a passport or a military ID. A proof of residence may be required. Completion certificates for driver education (if not previously submitted)  and training, and a signature by the adult who conducted the 50 hours of practice driving will also be required.
